About Us |
Who we are:We are a lay fellowship of Catholic men, not just fathers or sons, or just married or single, but a fellowship of men walking together on this earthly journey to improve our spiritual lives , "stand in the breach" for each other and our families, and accept accountability for our actions before God. We gather to together to help each other on the road through life to the path that leads to the meadows of the Lord. We are not perfect, far from it, and we recognize that we need the community, prayers, fellowship and unity that only another brother can provide. We have learned to trust each other in our spiritual growth and to strive to live by God's providence and thrive by prayer and His mercy. We come together to share our burdens with each other. When we share the burden, it is much lighter. We talk about issues that affect men and that, sometimes, can be awkward or embarrassing to share in a mixed group. We try to renew each other in spirit as we try to understand God's will for us: · We seek God's Wisdom and counsel. · We pray together and lift each other up. · We share our burdens and pains. · We seek to fellowship with Jesus. · We take faith seriously, but ourselves with a good dose of humor.
......and we know the road can be long and weary without good fellows for company along the path. Founding of Fishers of Men One of our members, new to his parish, was looking for a men's group that met to pray, fellowship and share men's burdens in life. He found that women got together easily and could form quick bonds and become fast friends. They found it easy to discuss problems, pray together and, in general, help carry each others burdens. Generally, if married, they would set the social calendar for the family and through them their husbands would meet other men. But we men found it harder to get together and brooch spiritual matters and easily share our burdens. That new parishioner had been part of small men's groups at two other parishes and longed for the kind of fellowship they provided. To his surprise, he found that there were other men who felt this call to fellowship as well. Four these men got together at Bob Evans in Manassas, VA in June, 1995 prayed about and then formed the "Fishers of Men". They were Ralph Daley, Walter Wilowaty, Bob Bennett and John Kleb. |
